Lots of activities will be going on this Labor Day weekend at our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin. We plan to spend lots of time out on our boat on Lake Webster and participate in many other holiday activities One of our planned activities will be to attend Epworth Forest first ever Block Party.
It will be a great opportunity to catch up with long standing neighbors and meet new ones. The Block Party will include guests bringing a dish to share along with a Float and Pyramid Contest. Weekend guest are even invited to join in the party fun!
I do believe in the strength and esprit de corps of all laborers (that's all of us, right.) I mean really, we're all workin' for something. Some work to get ahead, some work at being lazy, others work so they can get to Lake Webster every-once-in-a-while!

Top Labor Day Memories from my Lake Cabin Indiana:
- Sittin' on the boat at the dock listenin' to the band that plays every labor day Monday echo across the lake.
- Goin' to the end of Summer labor day bash at South Shore golf course near Wawasee
- Bonfire with friends down by the lake on our Indiana Weekend Getaway
- Making plans (that you may or may not keep) with friends for the rest of the year and a Winter Cabin Rental
- Drifting on the water in the late summer sun
The Sleepy Owl has an end of Season Celebration coming up this year. I saw it on their sign. I think it's on 9/6/09. Check for yourself, don't count on me for details, I'm an idea guy! Any way you look at it, Labor Day at The Lake at Northern Indiana Cabins is maybe not as important as, but just feels better than, a protest march anywhere.

Imagine, starting or ending your day with a nice hot cup of cocoa or warm cider by a crackling fireplace in a all natural log wood cabin that offers lake views in every room to enjoy. A place where you could find the splendid colors of fall right outside your window.
Autumn is a wonderful time to visit our cabin on Lake Webster. Epworth Forest is full of mature trees and the foliage is beautiful especially during peak season. It is not unusual to experience warm enough temperatures to go tubing, bass fishing and boating like our family did last year. Our 2 Story Vacation Rentals Indiana log cabin offers 2 fireplaces, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths
This is a perfect time of year for a Indiana Weekend getaway and there are still a few dates left for fall. Hurry and check the calendar for reservations.

Wesley and I couldn't help but notice the sprinkles of love we found in the form of more flowers still blooming on the grounds of our Northern Indiana Home Rentals cabin in late August. Wesley's Mother, Ms.Emily was an avid Gardner and loved flowers especially wildflowers. Almost fifty years ago she started planting her seeds of love around the cabin. She carefully selected a variety of different flowers that bloom at different times in just the right location. This past weekend we moved her "In Memory" bench that viewed out upon Lake Webster a little closer in to one of her flowerbeds. Her devoted love for the cabin in North Webster, IN still lives on. She was very instrumental in being part of the original group that started the walking path in Epworth Forest. We miss her dearly but still feel and see her love with each seasonal blossoming flower.

We're so excited to be heading to "Take It Easy" Cabin our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin this Labor Day weekend. It has been a tradition for us to reserve this holiday for our own personal use year after year. Last year's Labor Day weekend was full of family love, and joy for Wesley and I. We enjoyed high 80 degree days and lots of family moments to cherish for a lifetime. My sister and brother-in law came in from Georgia along with my niece, her husband and their 3 children, and two of my nephews children who all reside in Indy joined us for a memorable time at the cabin.
My sister Vickie and her husband had never been to our cabin before. They flew into Indianapolis and we drove together to the cabin. Once we arrived we gave them the welcome tour of our Vacation Rentals Indiana Cabin and headed out to the back lower level deck that looks out onto Lake Webster. We gathered around the picnic table and shared wonderful conversations as the sun was beginning to set and didn't go inside until way after dark. We ordered in our favorite local pizza from the Lighthouse Restaurant and started up the fireplace. Our conversation and laughter continued until the wee hours of the morning. The next day was full of activities including Big Sister Vickie and I going on a shopping adventure at Lance's Supermarket in North Webster, IN. My Sister loves to cook so once you get her in a grocery store it can be hours before you leave:) Meanwhile back at the cabin, Wes and my brother in law Maurice are cruising Lake Webster on the boat. Wesley gives him the tour of all the Island houses, along with where all the best Muskie Fishing Indiana spots are located. Wesley gave a personal history lesson about his past life experiences with the cabin. Once we arrived back to the cabin we all climbed aboard the boat and cruised Lake Webster for the better part of the day. On Sunday, the rest of the family arrives from Indy. We all enjoyed the lake on two boats (our speedboat and Punk's Old Party Barge boat) The day unfolds to swimming, cookouts, fire pit marsh mellow roastings and inside games that followed prior to retiring to bed only to awake the next morning to a family gathering of biscuits and gravy breakfast served outside. It was a wonderful time and beautiful family memories where made.
I would be remiss in this blog not to point out one missing family member in our gathering last Labor Day and that was my middle sister who passed away from breast cancer in 2005. My middle sister, Gema, shared a wonderful weekend here together with her husband and her youngest daughter in the fall of 2004. My niece Molly, who visited us last year is her oldest daughter and we had a total of five of Gema's grandchildren with us this past Labor Day. Her memory, and her smile lives on in two of Molly's children.
Our Indiana Weekend Getaway Cabin is a beautiful place to make memories with friends and family!

No doubt about it - this summer has been chillier than most, especially up at Lake Webster. In fact, I was just reading today about how this past July was the
coldest July we've had in 60 years (the second coldest ever), with temperatures coming in 3.5 - 6.5 degrees colder than in the past.
You may think this would ruin a trip up to your vacation home indiana, but you'd be wrong! There is still plenty to do in North Webster, and the temperatures are still moderate enough to get out on the water. In fact, my friends and family have really enjoyed the cooler weather as the lower temperatures have scared many boaters off, allowing for smoother and more open water. This makes for great skiing, wake boarding, or whatever water sport you might enjoy. Just the other weekend, we went out on the lake with some friends and were able to wake board on completely smooth water up until 10am. On a typical weekend on Lake Webster the water is usually churning up by 9am, and rough for those who like to ski/wake board on a glass surface.
So don't let the weather keep you from traveling up north - the Take It Easy cabin still has openings for your family to stay and enjoy a weekend of water sports this summer.

We recently took a 3 day weekend at our Vacation Home Indiana rental cabin in Epworth Forest. We discovered the cutest restaurant in Leesburg, IN called Pie Eyed Petey's. It was established in 2007 but this was the first we had heard of it. The restaurant/pub has a fun Caribbean pirate theme. The owner is rumored to have won the lottery and took some of his winnings to renovate an old marina and turned it into a restaurant/bar and kept the marina going. It is nestled on Lake Tippecanoe.
We were greeted my a animated private that talks to you saying very funny things. There is all sorts of nautical decor inside and out with boat seating available inside. I just had to get a souvenir from there so I purchased a beer goggles sweatshirt. The owner has been asked why this place is named Pie Eyed Petey's and, as their menu states, they wonder that too, But as Black beard the Pirate once said about the ships he commandeered, "If that what she's named, then that's what she be"
This is a must see place to visit when you come to Lake Webster for your next Indiana Weekend Getaway.
Arr, Fare-thee-well for now mates!

There are 3 place on Lake Webster where you can launch you boat. The best for Fishing Boats and Runabouts is at the Indiana DNR Public Fishing Site on Backwater. It's free! But you need to go through the tubes to get to Lake Webster. Maximum size approx. 18' Runabout or Fishing Boat.
So if you're a fisherman; Bass Fishing Indiana, Crappie Fishing Indiana or Muskie Fishing Indiana that's the ramp I recommend.
The other ramps are at Webster Lakeshore Marina and at the town of North Webster. These are easy to get to but the ramp at the marina is very long and the ramp near Fisherman's Cove in town is at a 90 degree angle to the road. Easy for an expert, tough for anybody else.
It's all good...just bring your boat and come out to our lake cottage. The kindly folk around the area, affectionately known as "Lake Trash," will help you put in no matter what size the craft.
Man it used to be hot & humid with no AC at Indiana Lake Cabins! All we had was cool Lake Webster Fishing in the early morning and late afternoon twilight. (I like the twilight, that's when the Marsh Crone feeds her brood the "Marsh Crone's Brew"...look it up...I swear...see for yourself on Hoss Hill Road at about 745PM!) There was also of course; swimming at the Epworth Forest Beach or off the boat or pier, speedboat ride with the wind in your hair, bike ride down the hill toward Eagle Point, trip for ice cream with the windows rolled down and "Hanky Panky" by Tommy James and The Shondells blastin' on the box, hangin' out in the basement. Lake cottage rentals used to be sweltering especially at night with the oscillating fan that only cooled you as it passed by.
But now our Northern Indiana Cabin Rentals have something great! Air Conditioning. That's right, central air so you don't need to drive to Syracuse to the Pickwick Theatre and watch GI Joe or BandSlam just to get that artificial AC cool. And you can sleep at night at our Vacation Home Indiana without putting your head down towards the foot of the bed
(I don't know why but before the AC may Dad did that 'cause he said it was cooler, right Dad.)
So go for it! Sweat it up all day and at night after your dip you can chill out the Dog Days in Fiiinnne AC. Be cool.
In coming up with new ideas for our Take It Easy Cabin blog, I'm constantly looking across the web to find the latest news and stories about North Webster. The other day I stumbled across a great website that includes some of the
best local info on North Webster: AmericanTowns.com. This site features events, news, blogs, photos, and reviews of the local restaurants/stores.
If you're headed up to our vacation home Indiana spot, check this site out to find out what's happening in and around Lake Webster. Even if you've stayed at many northern Indiana Cabins, you still may learn something new!
There are still open spots for late summer, early fall - just click on our calendar in the sidebar to check availability. We'd love to have you, your family and your friends come and see what makes North Webster so special.
It was hot then, it's hot now. I was 13 and had just come back from England with some cool clothes and some kind of new attitude. Now I'm 53 and now, as then, I love my Vacation Home Indiana. There's something special about the Lake Cabins Indiana that gives me a feeling of "Peace, Love and Music." I felt it then and I feel it now.
Relaxation, carefree hours, togetherness; they had all these at Woodstock and on Lake Webster 40 years ago and we still have 'em today. As I prepare for my Indiana Weekend Getaway I'll cling to the positives of that August weekend in 1969 and strive for creating new love experiences going forward.
Let this song; "Goin' Up The Country" by Canned Heat, play in your head and get the message the way they delivered it when they played it at Woodstock. (If you must look it up on YouTube, please be my guest.) The message: "Goin' up the country where the water tastes like wine...You've got a home as long as I've got mine."

I wrote a couple weeks ago about all of the local farm stands you can stop at on the way up to the lake. Well, all that writing made me really start craving some fresh corn and tomatoes, so when I headed up to Lake Webster, I stopped at a local favorite -
Sweet Corn Charlie's. I've never heard of Sweet Corn Charlies, but my friend who has been going up to Northern Indiana for many years has gone there several times. Sweet Corn Charlie's has 8 farms across Northern Indiana, but they have a stand a couple miles down the road from Lake Webster.
Their Syracuse location is on Pickwick Drive, at the DQ intersection, next to the Family Dollar Store. Look for the Yellow and White Tent.
Hours:
Monday - Friday 10:00 - 5:45
Saturday 10:00 - 4:30
Sunday Closed
Next time you stay at our vacation home Indiana cabin - you must try this place! We pick up tomatoes, corn and watermelon and I have to admit that they were the best I have had in a long time. They have a variety of tomatoes, all for the same price, so we got a couple antique tomatoes and made a very colorful caprese salada (tomato, mozzarella and basil) and also got some green tomatoes and made fried green tomatoes. We boiled the corn and chopped up the watermelon and had a delicious meal for the whole family.
If you're looking for a way to connect with your family, take them on an Indiana Weekend Getaway: rent the Take It Easy Cabin, pick out fresh fruit/veggies from Sweet Corn Charlie's, then cook dinner together.
The summer is passing by so quickly and we didn't even have a day over 90 degrees in July in North Webster, Indiana. These less humid temps has made it quite comfortable for our Indiana Lake Cabins guest in Epworth Forest. We are excited because in nine days we are headed to our Indiana Lake Cabins Rental. I can't wait to pack up the pets and head out to our Indiana Weekend Getaway. We are very eager to cozy in our Cottage Rentals Indiana Home and relax in the ambiance of cabin lakefront living. It's an easy drive to get there and takes about 2 1/2 hours Our family dog Riviera always knows when we are only blocks from the cabin as she starts barking with excitement. Once we are unpacked we breathe in and then out with total contentment in our Indiana Log Cabin. When we arrive late morning we fix ourselves some refreshing sweat tea. plug in the inside water bucket fountain and gaze out our large picture window that opens up to a world of nature. No doubt, the weeping willow trees will appear to have grown taller and the Dixie Paddle boat will be tooting it's horn as it slowly passes by. Quickly we will pack the cooler and picnic baskets to head out on the boat for some fun on Lake Webster. After a summer full of Vacation Indiana Rental Guest... it's finally our turn to enjoy summer fun at it's best.
It's early as I write this. When the sun comes up over Lake Webster it sometimes casts a purpleish yellowish color across the sky. There's a picture of it at the top of the home page of this blog. Epworth Forest is in the middle of the horseshoe shaped lake and the Log Cabin Indiana faces East so the view is spectacular.
As the sun reaches it's peak it reveals lots of good areas for Muskie Fishing Indiana, Bass Fishing Indiana and Crappie Fishing Indiana.
You don't need to get up early everyday but it's nice for a change!

Headed up to Lake Webster for an Indiana Weekend Getaway and not sure where to go to church? Look no further! There are pleanty of religious institutes in the North Webster area, and there is even a boat-in-worship service where you can drive your boat up to the lakeside worship service:
North Webster Lake Boat-In Worship ServicesAddress: North Shore of North Webster at Cokesbury Lodge.
Service Times: 7:37 a.m.
Phone: 574-834-2820
Worship service for all ages. Anchor your boat or bring a lawn chair
You can also find a list of all the churches in Kosciusko County on the
Kosciusko County Visitors Bureau Website. Your family is sure to feel at home when staying at our vacation home Indiana cabin.

One of my favorite things about driving up to Lake Webster during the summer time is the fresh fruit and veggie stands along the way. What could be better than fresh Indiana tomatoes and fresh Indiana corn? If we aren't traveling through the night (which we end up doing a lot since we leave Friday night after work) I love to stop on the way up to Epworth Forest to get a head start on buying food for the weekend. Not only are the fruits/veggies the freshest you can find, it also feels good knowing we are contributing directly to the Indiana economy and the farmer who is selling the produce. I'm not sure of the exact number, but I believe there are several farm stands along highway 13 (for those of you traveling from the Indianapolis area).
Next time you are heading north, make sure you pick up some fresh fruit and veggies for your summer barbecue. They will be the perfect addition to your family's stay when you rent cabin Indiana homes!
If you are anything like my family, boating is an absolute must for the summer time. Whether it be on the near by reservoir, Geist, or up at our Vacation Home Indiana on Lake Webster - we love to get out on the water. If your family is planning on bringing a boat when you stay at the Take It Easy Cabin, make sure you think safety first! Here are some tips I got from the Lake Webster Association:
- Motorboat or PWC operators who are at least age 15 may operate a motorboat or PWC only if they successfully complete a boaters education course approved by the DNR.
- No one under 15 years of age may legally operate a motorboat greater than 10 h.p. or a PWC.
- Children under 13 years of age must wear a PFD except when child is below deck in an enclosed cabin or the watercraft is docked or at anchor.
- Each person on a PWC must wear an approved PFD.
- All boats are required to display a white light visible from all directions whenever they are anchored or moored away from the dock between sunset and sunrise.
- Speed between sunset and sunrise is limited to 10 miles per hour.
- When you see an “Idle Speed” or “No Wake” sign it indicates a boating restricted area established to protect the safety of the public, protection of ecological resources and property. Idle Speed means the slowest possible speed, not to exceed 5 miles per hour, so as to maintain steerage and the wake is minimal.
- By operating a boat or PWC on Indiana waters, you have consented to be tested for alcohol or drugs if requested by a law enforcement official.
- It is illegal to dump garbage and plastics into or upon public waters or on the banks of public waters. Litter can kill birds and fish.
Our lakefront cabin rental has a pier where your family can dock your boat during your stay.

If you are planning a bass fishing Indiana or a muskie fishing Indiana trip, why not book a stay at the Take It Easy cabin on Lake Webster, Indiana? Not only is the lakefront cabin rentals full of amenities for you and your friends to stay, it's also on one of the best lakes in Indiana! For those of you researching the lake, here is a little more information I gathered from the Webster Lake Guide Service:
WEBSTER LAKE Surface Area : Main Lake 585 Acres
With Backwaters 774 Acres
Max Depth : 52 feet
Average Depth : 12 feet
Main Forage : Shad, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch, Bullhead and Carp

Located in Kosciusko county,
Lake Webster is Indiana's Brood stock & Premier Musky Lake. The DNR says that there is an average of 6 adult fish per acre with the average length at around 38". That can make for an awesome day on the water with several follows and hook ups this is usually a good action lake.
It is also a great Crappie and Bass fishery. The DNR is currently doing a PIT tag study that Webster Lake Guide service is participating in.
If you're looking for a guided fishing trip, check out the
Lake Webster Guide Service site.
We recently headed up to our log cabin Indiana home and took our 4 month old lab-mix puppy with us. Of course, it is always a hassle to pack up the dog, entertain her on the drive, and then re-train her where to go potty once we arrive - but getting to watch her swim for the first time was well worth it! And of course, it beat having to leave her with a sitter or at a kennel. We probalby could have sat on the dock for hours and watched her jump after the tennis ball- it was a blast.
Fortunately, the Take It Easy Cabin is an Indiana Pet Friendly Cabin, so your family pet is welcome to come on vacation with you as well. And- one great thing about Lake Webster is the sand bars and beaches you can go to, so if your puppy is like mine and scared to jump in off the dock, they can take the easier approach and walk into the water from the shoreline. You might even try this on your next trip to Lake Webster with your pet...
