I wrote a couple weeks ago about all of the local farm stands you can stop at on the way up to the lake. Well, all that writing made me really start craving some fresh corn and tomatoes, so when I headed up to Lake Webster, I stopped at a local favorite -
Sweet Corn Charlie's. I've never heard of Sweet Corn Charlies, but my friend who has been going up to Northern Indiana for many years has gone there several times. Sweet Corn Charlie's has 8 farms across Northern Indiana, but they have a stand a couple miles down the road from Lake Webster.
Their Syracuse location is on Pickwick Drive, at the DQ intersection, next to the Family Dollar Store. Look for the Yellow and White Tent.
Hours:
Monday - Friday 10:00 - 5:45
Saturday 10:00 - 4:30
Sunday Closed
Next time you stay at our vacation home Indiana cabin - you must try this place! We pick up tomatoes, corn and watermelon and I have to admit that they were the best I have had in a long time. They have a variety of tomatoes, all for the same price, so we got a couple antique tomatoes and made a very colorful caprese salada (tomato, mozzarella and basil) and also got some green tomatoes and made fried green tomatoes. We boiled the corn and chopped up the watermelon and had a delicious meal for the whole family.
If you're looking for a way to connect with your family, take them on an Indiana Weekend Getaway: rent the Take It Easy Cabin, pick out fresh fruit/veggies from Sweet Corn Charlie's, then cook dinner together.
It's early as I write this. When the sun comes up over Lake Webster it sometimes casts a purpleish yellowish color across the sky. There's a picture of it at the top of the home page of this blog. Epworth Forest is in the middle of the horseshoe shaped lake and the Log Cabin Indiana faces East so the view is spectacular.
As the sun reaches it's peak it reveals lots of good areas for Muskie Fishing Indiana, Bass Fishing Indiana and Crappie Fishing Indiana.
You don't need to get up early everyday but it's nice for a change!

One of my favorite things about driving up to Lake Webster during the summer time is the fresh fruit and veggie stands along the way. What could be better than fresh Indiana tomatoes and fresh Indiana corn? If we aren't traveling through the night (which we end up doing a lot since we leave Friday night after work) I love to stop on the way up to Epworth Forest to get a head start on buying food for the weekend. Not only are the fruits/veggies the freshest you can find, it also feels good knowing we are contributing directly to the Indiana economy and the farmer who is selling the produce. I'm not sure of the exact number, but I believe there are several farm stands along highway 13 (for those of you traveling from the Indianapolis area).
Next time you are heading north, make sure you pick up some fresh fruit and veggies for your summer barbecue. They will be the perfect addition to your family's stay when you rent cabin Indiana homes!
If you are anything like my family, boating is an absolute must for the summer time. Whether it be on the near by reservoir, Geist, or up at our Vacation Home Indiana on Lake Webster - we love to get out on the water. If your family is planning on bringing a boat when you stay at the Take It Easy Cabin, make sure you think safety first! Here are some tips I got from the Lake Webster Association:
- Motorboat or PWC operators who are at least age 15 may operate a motorboat or PWC only if they successfully complete a boaters education course approved by the DNR.
- No one under 15 years of age may legally operate a motorboat greater than 10 h.p. or a PWC.
- Children under 13 years of age must wear a PFD except when child is below deck in an enclosed cabin or the watercraft is docked or at anchor.
- Each person on a PWC must wear an approved PFD.
- All boats are required to display a white light visible from all directions whenever they are anchored or moored away from the dock between sunset and sunrise.
- Speed between sunset and sunrise is limited to 10 miles per hour.
- When you see an “Idle Speed” or “No Wake” sign it indicates a boating restricted area established to protect the safety of the public, protection of ecological resources and property. Idle Speed means the slowest possible speed, not to exceed 5 miles per hour, so as to maintain steerage and the wake is minimal.
- By operating a boat or PWC on Indiana waters, you have consented to be tested for alcohol or drugs if requested by a law enforcement official.
- It is illegal to dump garbage and plastics into or upon public waters or on the banks of public waters. Litter can kill birds and fish.
Our lakefront cabin rental has a pier where your family can dock your boat during your stay.

If you are planning a bass fishing Indiana or a muskie fishing Indiana trip, why not book a stay at the Take It Easy cabin on Lake Webster, Indiana? Not only is the lakefront cabin rentals full of amenities for you and your friends to stay, it's also on one of the best lakes in Indiana! For those of you researching the lake, here is a little more information I gathered from the Webster Lake Guide Service:
WEBSTER LAKE Surface Area : Main Lake 585 Acres
With Backwaters 774 Acres
Max Depth : 52 feet
Average Depth : 12 feet
Main Forage : Shad, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch, Bullhead and Carp

Located in Kosciusko county,
Lake Webster is Indiana's Brood stock & Premier Musky Lake. The DNR says that there is an average of 6 adult fish per acre with the average length at around 38". That can make for an awesome day on the water with several follows and hook ups this is usually a good action lake.
It is also a great Crappie and Bass fishery. The DNR is currently doing a PIT tag study that Webster Lake Guide service is participating in.
If you're looking for a guided fishing trip, check out the
Lake Webster Guide Service site.
Looking for the best spot to take an Indiana Weekend Getaway? Look no further! North Webster is a great spot to take your family whether it be for a long weekend or for a week vacation? I found a great site that describes the character and charm of North Webster well:
If that idyllic small-town feeling has escaped most places in America, those searching to find it again need only to look to the town of North Webster to remember how wonderful that life is. The community of North Webster, with a population of just over 1,000, certainly knows the value of creating neighborhoods and organizations that benefit everyone.
Incorporated in June of 1937, North Webster maintains a number of historic buildings and adds new businesses and opportunities continually to serve its residents. Famous for its quaint shops and local specialty stores, North Webster residents relish in knowing their community's unique atmosphere is all their own.
North Webster truly embodies the picturesque towns often painted by artists like Norman Rockwell, who captured their nostalgic appeal with strokes of the brush...
I got this from the
Century 21 North Webster Real Estate Group. Whether you're looking to purchase one of the many Indiana Lake Cabins for sale, or looking to rent one of the many Northern Indiana Cabins Available, you're sure to love the small town feel of North Webster, Indiana.

There is nothing more tranquil and relaxing at our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin then when the summer sun slowly sets over Lake Webster giving way to the night. Usually we have had a busy day full of boating fun with friends or family, and everyone is slightly sun burned no matter how much sun screen we have applied. The cook outs usually conclude prior to the sun setting. The group always readily agrees to leave a few dirty dishes in the sink so that we can enjoy the Northern Indiana Cabins night nature's ambiance of our Indiana cabin getaway.
A total night transformation takes place as the acceleration of boats engines slow to a crawl on the lake, the cricket's make their presence known more as they pick up in unison their nightly lullaby. We turn on the dock light that cast it's light over the lake, fire up citronella candles, bring out the "Off" spray for the pesky critters, and kick back in our lawn chairs. Fireflies seem to appear out of no where. My mind then starts to travel back to when I was a child full of laughter chasing after them with a mason jar. I always wanted to make their captive lodging nice so I would throw in a few blades of grass and sometimes a twig inside and punch a few holes in the lid with childhood thinking that this was a good thing. Of course only to find them barely moving by morning. Just seeing any summer firefly carries me back to carefree childhood days along with our cabin setting that has a way of heightening your senses to nature, the past and to simple carefree living.
The bullfrogs begin to pick up their cadence and accompany the crickets as the stars in the North Webster, IN sky shine out to be noticed. Seems like someone always in the crowd thinks they have spotted the "Little Dipper" and we stare out at the sky with amazement and intrigued for a short time only to be distracted by someone ready to start a bonfire and indulge in some smore's.
Wesley is the great "Fire Starter" and so we all eventually head towards the fire pit area where a blazing bonfire begins. By now the summer Epworth Forest air has chilled a bit and we take a seat on the benches around the bonfire to watch the night fire flicker. All sorts of stories are exchanged with an occasional ghost story of the "Golden Arm" and we create memories. The bonfire slowly starts to burn down to glowing charred wood and slowly family members or guest decide to call it and evening head in to the cabin for a good nights rest.
Some of us older adults linger out in the night air amongst nature's beauty a little longer and realize no matter how fast life gets in the city some of the most simplest moments in life become memories that last forever. We hope everyone that visits "Take It Easy" log cabin
will discover a moment that they will cherish forever.
Wesley and I spent our 4th of July holiday this year locally in Fishers, IN. This is the first time in years when we didn't take advantage of our personal Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin. I must say this past holiday weekend in Indy we were experiencing two types of cabin fever. Local cabin fever in our own home do to the rain dampening some of our firework fun along with a yearning cabin fever to be at our Indiana Weekend Getaway.
There is so much to love about our Vacation Home Indiana Cabin. The panoramic views of Lake Webster, the ambiance of the natural log wood walls inside our 2 story cabin, enjoying the nature, Lake Webster fishing and walking to our boat dock that is just steps from our lower level. It's a wonderful place to escape to for some much needed rest and relaxation The Cabin is nestled in Epworth Forest allowing us plenty of privacy and a beautiful setting to spend more time with the family, and enjoy the outdoors. The cabin is fully furnished so it actually offers a " home a way from home" type feel for us and rental guest.
Our cabin fever is rising with anticipation for our next visit to North Webster, Indiana when we can kick back and enjoy our Take It Easy Cabin.
We still have availability for the later part of the summer at the Take It Easy Cabin, on Lake Webster.
Webster is known to be a great Bass Fishing Indiana Lake and Muskie Fishing Indiana Lake, and we're positive you and your group will have a great time fishing, relaxing, and soaking up some sun.
The Indiana Musky and Bass Fishing Adventure Guide describes Lake Webster as:
"Shallow, weedy flats, awesome breaklines, excellent open water fishing, and "full of fish" are the best ways to describe Lake Webster. Heavy annual stocking provides great numbers of fish while the possibility of catching the next state record has made this the most popular muskie lake in the state."

Taxman leave me alone! I don't want to mess around with you any more! I just like to go out on the water at Lake Webster or any of the other lakes in our beautiful nation. I like Lake Webster Fishing. I like Indiana Lake Cabins. I like any Lake Cabin Indiana or any other state for that matter. But I don't like getting a sticker for my boat. I don't like the license branch. I don't like to pay a fee for a boat I already own which will be used on a lake in a state where I already pay taxes. What's up with that? Happy Independence Day! Independent from what? England? One reason we left there was because of the inequities in taxation. My rant is through. Now I'll try to find my registration and go back to the BMV tomorrow.
Well here we go...4th of July is this weekend at Lake Webster and guess what, it is everywhere else too! I love it at my Vacation Home Indiana for the 4th. Lotsa: fireworks- friends-family-food-fun-freaks-fudgebars and Fishing Lakes Indiana. The fireworks on Webster this year will be shot off from Kline Island just off the beach at Epworth Forest. If you're out on a boat on the lake you can see Fireworks from Tippy and Wawsasee (the Big Bam Boom!) As children we had sparklers and snakes at the Indiana Log Cabin, as a teen we had M-80's, Black Cats and 76 kegs of beer in 1976, as a adults we just like to watch...it's all good. Have fun!

If you're anything like me, the weather is an extremely important part of a vacation. If I am going to a place to lay out, sun bath, swim, etc., I want to make sure the weather is going to be in the above 75 degrees and sunny!

Wesley and I have noticed on Federal Holiday trips to our Indiana Log Cabin Rental in North Webster, IN just how few American Flags we see flying from homes. This is true even in many small towns as we make our way to our Northern Indiana Weekend Getaway cottage. I can recall being around 7 or 8 years old and mesmerized by the patriotism displayed especially in small towns and their downtown area. My parents would buy me one of those cheap pin wheels in red, white and blue that I would stick out the car window. Of course, this fun only lasted for a few miles as the wind would always end up tearing the pin wheel. Back in those times there was little entertainment in long car rides. Your radio antenna reception was poor and there was no a/c. The only option for entertainment and staying cool was looking our the car windows completely rolled down. I found my face half hanging out the window like a pet dog with my main focus on the scenery. In my childhood recollection it seemed like almost every house had a flag on their front porch.
I must say where our cabin is located in Epworth Forest the community has kept the tradition strong. On Memorial Weekend the North Webster American Legion parking lot is completely full to capacity with overflow parking in nearby business establishments. Flags are flying not only on personal homes, but on cottages and on the back of boats.
One of the first things we do on designated holidays is to display our American Flag on the side of our log cabin porch. My father was a veteran of World War II and Wesley and I both love our country. I know it is easy to get lost in holidays with the extra day off, family planning, cookouts and such yet I for one miss seeing the patriotism I recalled as a child
Arriving to our Indiana Cabin Rentals and their patriotic observance in the community takes me home again to past times.
There is so much nature to be found at our Indiana Log Cabin rentals property. One of my favorite birds to watch in the late spring and summer is the Hummingbird. I have always found these birds to be so magical and beautiful.
When you stroll by the banks of Lake Webster and through the lots it is not uncommon to see turtles, bass and crappie fish jumping along with swirls of muskie and schools of blue gill, sun fish, and perch (on a clear day).
It is common to spot raccoons, beavers, muskrats, groundhogs, deer. frogs, butterflies, bees, and a few pesky skeeters too. Here at Epworth Forest you're surrounded by the calming and beautiful gifts of nature.
...because every little thing is gonna be alright. Yes it's spring. 3 little birds wake me up every morning.
When I'm at the lake for an Indiana Weekend Getaway I like to get up and get a cup of coffee and go sit on the patio and watch the hummingbirds. There's also a large population of swans on Lake Webster, 40+ at last count (my personal fave is # 23.) The Log Cabin Indiana is across the Epworth Forest Bay from a bird sanctuary so we see those big 'ol Herons standing like statues a lot. It's rare but I've seen 'em snatch up a fish and gobble it down on our pier. Their call is "prehistoric."
Bob-Whites are all around, they say "bob-white, bob-white." I whistle back at 'em. Our Kitty, Casanova, likes 'em too. She'd like to eat them if she could but she'll have to be content to watch out the window and screen door at our Indiana Pet Friendly Cabin.
Woodpeckers, Canadian Geese, Ducks, Coot, Martins, Red-Winged Black Birds, they're all there and more at Vacation Rentals Indiana. I like 'em and hope you do too. Just don't stand directly below them or their nests or you know what could happen. See you at the lake.
Listening recommendations; "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley, "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. See you at the lake!
