Connect with friends at our Winter Cabin Rental Indiana

Monday, November 2, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

We just returned from a fun Halloween Weekend spent with very special friends at our Northern Indiana Cabin rental.  The weekend went by way too fast as we got lost in our conversation, laughter and in visiting the area lakes and restaurants.  We had a delicious lunch at Pie Eyed Petey's and found out that both of our guest had childhood ties to the neighboring area. Stephen had memories of Lake Shue and Cyndy use to attend a old cheer leading campground called Maxwelton in Syracuse Indiana  The weather was rather chilly and windy on Saturday with lots of water caps out on Lake Webster so we enjoyed the warmth of our cabin fireplace and the Epworth Forest setting.  It was a delightful weekend of stories, fun and friendship.

Our Epworth Forest Log Cabin is the perfect setting for Thanksgiving

Thursday, October 15, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

I have noticed that most my client retailers that I call on have already started displaying Christmas items and Halloween hasn't even arrived yet, but I have also noticed a lot of people shopping online for cabin rentals for both Thanksgiving and Christmas here in northern Indiana lately.

If you are even thinking about Thanksgiving or Christmas yet, and you think that the perfect family gathering would be in a warm cabin with two fireplaces going, while gazing outside at Lake Webster, then you might want to get with it!  We recently received some inquiries about Christmas but as of today Thanksgiving is still open.

Our Vacation Home Indiana Rental is so perfectly charming for holiday family dinners.  The natural all wood log walls and floor inside is picture perfect.  The cabin is fully equipped and has windows in every room with views that open up to nature.  It is not unusual to see deer, gray squirrels and a variety of wild life right outside the windows.   A log cabin setting is a perfect place to create a Thanksgiving or Christmas Memory.

Area Ghost Hauntings & Stories Around Epworth Forest

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

When I first heard the rumor about the nearby Barbee Hotel in Warsaw, IN ( just 15 minutes from our Lake Cottage Rentals Indiana Home) to be haunted by the spirit of Al Capone it certainly made for a fascinating story. The story claims that he and many of his gangsters buddies haunt the hotel. Staff members have reported seeing an old man sitting in a booth after closing. When staff members talk to him there is no response. Thinking they are dealing with an unruly customer they leave to get assistance. However, upon returning the bar is empty and no one has seen anyone leave. One legend states that the hotel was a popular place that gangsters took their girlfriends to. One gangster however took the girlfriend of another gangster. She was then murdered in the hotel by the jealous thug. People have reported that they hear her wailing at night and they feel cold spots generating from the area. Other phenomena includes the appearance of faces in photographs taken at the hotel, and more commonly orbs. Around the hotel itself is a popular place to see orbs and apparitions
A couple years ago Wesley and I invited some good friends over from Elkhart, IN to our Northern Indiana Cabins and we had dinner at the Barbee Restaurant. We struck up a conversation with a Professor from Notre Dame University who actually specialized in the paranormal.  He considered himself a modern day "ghost buster".  He was there that weekend with a group of other men  to check out evidence to support the story.  Now, I have always been fascinated by a good ghost story and meeting him seemed to give some substance to the rumor.  Of course, the story seemed more credible as I finished my second glass of wine:)

A very long running ghost story for North Webster,Indiana is the ghost story about the old
North Webster Elementary School which is now a community center. Some say a young boy wearing khakis and a blue sweater roamed the athletic areas playing sports and shutting off the lights. When someone went to turn the lights on the light switch is already on. There was also a teacher in high heels on the second floor. People said that they could hear high heel shoes clicking on the floor. Random appliances in the school would turn on and off by themselves. The young boy could also be seen in the library trying to check out books. Hmmn...wonder what the ghost are up to now since it's been converted?

There are many other ghost stories out there involving North Webster, Indiana.  You can read a few of them by going to http://www.ghostsofamerica.com/4/Indiana_North_Webster_ghost_sightings.html

Halloween Movies recommended for Lake Cottage Rentals Indiana

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

I usually make a point to watch as many horror movies as possible in the fall leading up to Halloween. In honor of the upcoming season. I enjoy the feel of a classic old time horror movie that just feels good to watch on Halloween, much like Night of the Living Dead does. A good old fashion scary flick that gives you something to think about  One of the scariest movies I saw as a child was one with Vincent Price called "House of Ushers" and after the movie they had the characters who had died (some who were buried alive) come from behind the screen... you talk about being scared.  I have watched this movie as an adult and laugh at the exaggerated 60's drama and blood curdling screams.
Check this classic movie (funny now) out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k48BMS5AfW0

I've noticed in the past few years that horror films are becoming too much to handle for certain people. A lot of these recent films are what is known as a slasher film when the plot focuses on psycho killers. These kinds of films give people like me anxiety, due to the fact that this possible situation could happen.  These movies really creep me out especially when I am at our Vacation Home Indiana Cabin.  It just feel scarier since we are more remotely located in a Northern Indiana Cabin.

Since this Halloween we will be enjoying our lakefront cabin rentals that views Lake Webster, we will no doubt rent or buy some Halloween DVDs to add to our collection of movies (approximately 50 movies to choose from) that we keep at our cabin for ourselves and for guest.  Some of our favorite Halloween movies are...Halloween of course.. Friday the 13th... Night of the Living Dead (b/w version) Pumpkin Head..It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown (for the faint hearted), Saw, Hellraiser,  and Cabin Fewer (of course)

Halloween...Mr. Bones is excited about meeting our Indiana Lake Cabins Guest

Sunday, October 11, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

Today was a beautiful fall Indiana Autumn Day which inspired me to go downstairs for our Halloween decorations.  I love to decorate but time and money often prevents me from my full expression of this talent. So I head down to what we call the way back room.  It is full of junk, memory boxes, and seasonal home decor.  I see Mr. Bones, (our singing/talking skeleton) who has been a favorite for years for both family and trick or treaters.   We also heard today that one of my best friends, Cyndi and her fiancee Stephen will be joining us at our Northern Indiana Cabin Rental for Halloween  They have never been to our cabin in Epworth Forest in North Webster, Indiana or had the pleasure of crappie fishing Indiana on Lake Webster yet.
I want to make sure they feel the cozy welcome that this Indiana Lake cabin can bring and enjoy the Halloween spirit.
So, we plan to add a few extra personal touches for their arrival and will probably bring Mr. Bones along for their pleasure and for any possible trick or treaters.   We can't wait to return to our personal cabin and make memories with dear friends amongst fall decor.

Gratitude is found in our Lakefront Cabin Rentals

Friday, October 9, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

"Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul"
 Henry Ward Beecher

This past September I captured a moment of Wesley giving gratitude for the gift of our Indiana Cabin Rentals Log Cabin.  He had no idea that I had captured this sweet moment on camera.   The peaceful surroundings of our cabin of wooded trees, the Lake Webster view and all the wild life gives you a serene sense of comfort.  His personal family ties and youthful history here in North Webster, IN opens up a flood gate of growing up memories.  He has shared many stories of his past youth of Crappie Fishing, hiking, family and friends

Having a grateful heart is transforming and should be a daily event. Living in the United States most of us have a standard of living many higher than two-thirds of the rest of the planet. Instead of focusing on what we do not or can not have it's good to bring your awareness around to the many things you do and begin practicing gratitude.

Wesley and I try not to save gratitude for just Thanksgiving but year round too.  Our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin is the perfect place to spend Thanksgiving.  Check out our availability calendar for openings.

The Fall That's Yet to Come

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 by Wesley Duke Sapp

It's been cool lately.  We have had plenty of rain.  That's good for the fall colors at Lake Cottage Rentals Indiana.  What I've been told by people who seem to know is that the cool summer and the rain we've had recently will combine to make the trees around lake Webster show spectacular colors!

Epworth Forest is full of trees.  There are some tremendous specimens right around Take It Easy Cabin.  Looking out from the cabin across Epworth Bay towards the bird Sanctuary and the other side of the lake gives Roxanne and I what we like to think of as a beautiful view.

Muskie Fishing Indiana will be a treat this fall because when you're on on the water making 1 of 10,000 casts you'll be surrounded by Oak, Cherry, Shag Bark Hickory, Black Walnut and Sugar Maple trees yielding their palate of glorious chroma.  And, of course, the lillypads are catching their last gasps before hibernation...flowers and leaves taking it all in...

When Rox says "let's take a ride on the pontoon" we know we're in for a colorful treat, a glass of wine and the feelings we can only get here at the Indiana Log Cabin we love so much all year long.

Fall Is So Good

Sweaters, Sweatshirts, Fireplace Inside, Crisp Air, Lake Cottage Rentals Indiana, Walks by the Water, Boat-ride with a Blanket, and Catch the BIG ONE or BUY THAT TREASURE for CHEAP!

Put away the summer toys and get ready for the future.  The future at Indiana Lake Cabins means good fishin'; Muskie Fishing Indiana, Bass Fishing Indiana and Crappie Fishing Indiana and good Shoppin'.

Guide services are plentiful for Northern Indiana Fishing via Ye Olde Tacklebox, Google or call me, I can help.  Webster is a tricky lake.  Man-made from 7 (seven) holes there are 50 foot drops and shallows that go on seemingly forever.

The antique stores in 'Webster are stocked with unrealized treasures fro the rich folk who don't know what they're givin' up.  Shipshewanna is happening' with cornstalks, pumpkins, gourds and all the fruits of the harvest.  'Though Sweetcorn Charlie is closed, there are still locals with roadside stands of veggies, fruit and love to share.  Come on, you've got a cabin...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood ...

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

Whenever we visit our northern Vacation Rentals Indiana log cabin we always walk the neighborhood in Epworth Forest located in North Webster, IN.  The outside surrounding is very rich in nature and we enjoy seeing how each of our neighbors have added their own personal charm in not only their outside decor but in the chosen names for their Indiana Lake Cabins.  The neighborhood is very eclectic with some cabins being built in the 50's and many other cottages that are newly built or renovated. While writing this blog I couldn't help but think of the old TV childhood theme song by Mr.Rogers. Some of his lyrics are so fitting to how we feel each time we walk the shores of Lake Webster.

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?

Our Cottage Rentals Indiana Neighborhood is very friendly and full of owners and renters.  So even if you only stay for a weekend or week we hope you feel like a neighbor!

Most of fall is already reserved so keep in mind that our Northern Indiana Cabin is a wonderful place to enjoy Thanksgiving time or the Christmas holiday season.  Check out our availability calendar to book your next Indiana Getaway.

We have been blogging for a long time about how great our Northern Indiana Cabin Rentals is on Lake Webster in Epworth Forest.  Here are some recent comments left in our guest book.  Each entry has touched our heart in the fact that many others have been able to make memorable moments at the cabin.  Our Indiana Weekend Getaway Cabin was built in the early 50's and continues to offer a charm and magic that brings guest and family coming back year after year.

Your cabin was so perfect, it came equipped with everything.  Our family had a great time fishing, boating, tubing and jet sking.  Our son is leaving for his first year of college so it was great to have this family time together before he leaves.  We hope to come back next year.
PS Our dog (Coco) had a great time too.
God Bless!

We have enjoyed your cabin very much.  It is a great place to get away from it all.  Being here reminds me of my childhood in Kentucky.  We have had our grandchildren join us and they have loved it too.  They loved the fishing and the ride on the Dixie.  Together we ate popcorn, watched the swans and their babies.  I think they have learned that the simple things in life can be the most memorable and fun.
Thanks for sharing the cabin!

This place was very relaxing and was a good place to just sit and do nothing.  We fished off the pier and watched tons of birds and took pictures.  The cottage was well furnished and super clean.  We will come back again, and tell others about this place.
Great Job!

We had a magnificent weekend!  This cabin was way beyond our expectations.  Fishing was also spectacular with my 10 year old daughter Leah catching a 38' musky along with dozens of others.  We will definitely be back in October.  Thanks for providing such a warm and inviting cabin.
Warmest Regards,

Labor Day at The Lake has Nothing to do with The Haymarket Affair

Wednesday, September 2, 2009 by Wesley Duke Sapp
I do believe in the strength and esprit de corps of all laborers (that's all of us, right.)  I mean really, we're all workin' for something.  Some work to get ahead, some work at being lazy, others work so they can get to Lake Webster every-once-in-a-while!

Top Labor Day Memories from my Lake Cabin Indiana:
  • Sittin' on the boat at the dock listenin' to the band that plays every labor day Monday echo across the lake.
  • Goin' to the end of Summer labor day bash at South Shore golf course near Wawasee
  • Bonfire with friends down by the lake on our Indiana Weekend Getaway
  • Sweatshirts
  • Making plans (that you may or may not keep) with friends for the rest of the year and a Winter Cabin Rental
  • Drifting on the water in the late summer sun
The Sleepy Owl has an end of Season Celebration coming up this year.  I saw it on their sign.  I think it's on 9/6/09.  Check for yourself, don't count on me for details, I'm an idea guy!  Any way you look at it, Labor Day at The Lake at Northern Indiana Cabins is maybe not as important as, but just feels better than, a protest march anywhere.

Enjoy Autumn in a Northern Indiana Log Cabin Rental

Tuesday, September 1, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

Imagine, starting or ending your day with a nice hot cup of cocoa or warm cider by a crackling fireplace in a all natural log wood cabin that offers lake views in every room to enjoy.  A place where you could find the splendid colors of fall right outside your window.

Autumn is a wonderful time to visit our cabin on Lake Webster.   Epworth Forest is full of mature trees and the foliage is beautiful especially during peak season.  It is not unusual to experience warm enough temperatures to go tubing, bass fishing and boating like our family did last year.  Our 2 Story Vacation Rentals Indiana log cabin offers 2 fireplaces, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths

This is a perfect time of year for a Indiana Weekend getaway and there are still a few dates left for fall.  Hurry and check the calendar for reservations.

Ms. Emily's Flower Garden

Monday, August 31, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

Wesley and I couldn't help but notice the sprinkles of love we found in the form of more flowers still blooming on the grounds of our Northern Indiana Home Rentals cabin in late August. Wesley's Mother, Ms.Emily was an avid Gardner and loved flowers especially wildflowers. Almost fifty years ago she started planting her seeds of love around the cabin.   She carefully selected a variety of different flowers that bloom at different times in just the right location. This past weekend we moved her "In Memory" bench that viewed out upon Lake Webster a little closer in to one of her flowerbeds. Her devoted love for the cabin in North Webster, IN still lives on.  She was very instrumental in being part of the original group that started the walking path in Epworth Forest. We miss her dearly but still feel and see her love with each seasonal blossoming flower.

Labor Day Weekend Memories at Take It Easy

Monday, August 31, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

We're so excited to be heading to  "Take It Easy" Cabin our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin this Labor Day weekend.  It has been a tradition for us to reserve this holiday for our own personal use year after year. Last year's Labor Day weekend was full of family love, and joy for Wesley and I.  We enjoyed high 80 degree days and lots of family moments to cherish for a lifetime.  My sister and brother-in law came in from Georgia along with my niece, her husband and their 3 children, and two of my nephews children who all reside in Indy joined us for a memorable time at the cabin.

My sister Vickie and her husband had never been to our cabin before.  They flew into Indianapolis and we drove together to the cabin.  Once we arrived we gave them the welcome tour of our Vacation Rentals Indiana Cabin and headed out to the back lower level deck that looks out onto Lake Webster.  We gathered around the picnic table and shared wonderful conversations as the sun was beginning to set and didn't go inside until way after dark.  We ordered in our favorite local pizza from the Lighthouse Restaurant and started up the fireplace. Our conversation and laughter continued until the wee hours of the morning.  The next day was full of activities including Big Sister Vickie and I going on a shopping adventure at Lance's Supermarket in North Webster, IN.  My Sister loves to cook so once you get her in a grocery store it can be hours before you leave:)  Meanwhile back at the cabin, Wes and my brother in law Maurice are cruising Lake Webster on the boat.  Wesley gives him the tour of all the Island houses, along with where all the best Muskie Fishing Indiana spots are located. Wesley gave a personal history lesson about his past life experiences with the cabin.  Once we arrived back to the cabin we all climbed aboard the boat and cruised Lake Webster for the better part of the day. On Sunday, the rest of the family arrives from Indy.  We all enjoyed the lake on two boats (our speedboat and Punk's Old Party Barge boat) The day unfolds to swimming, cookouts, fire pit marsh mellow roastings and inside games that followed prior to retiring to bed only to awake the next morning to a family gathering of biscuits and gravy breakfast served outside.  It was a  wonderful time and beautiful family memories where made.

I would be remiss in this blog not to point out one missing family member in our gathering last Labor Day and that was my middle sister who passed away from breast cancer in 2005. My middle sister, Gema, shared a wonderful weekend here together with her husband and her youngest daughter in the fall of 2004.  My niece Molly, who visited us last year is her oldest daughter and we had a total of five of Gema's grandchildren with us this past Labor Day.  Her memory, and her smile lives on in two of Molly's children.

Our Indiana Weekend Getaway Cabin is a beautiful place to make memories with friends and family!

Take a Breakfast Break to Maria's Pancake House

Sunday, August 30, 2009 by Roxanne Turner

When the sun rises above our Vacation Home Indiana Log Cabin and cast it's early morning rays over Lake Webster our appetites begin to stir.  Often we prepare our breakfast at the cabin and seat ourselves around the table to enjoy the view of the lake and nature.  Then there are other times when we don't want to deal with the preparation and clean up an head out to Maria's Pancake House in North Webster, IN.  Maria's is usually packed do to it's reputation for good food.  Maria's offers excellent service along with a historical wall mural of various pics of the town and areas history.  It's a great place to start your day before the daily cabin activities of bass or muskie fishing, boating, tubing or hiking.

Launch Your Boat

Saturday, August 22, 2009 by Wesley Duke Sapp
There are 3 place on Lake Webster where you can launch you boat.  The best for Fishing Boats and Runabouts is at the Indiana DNR Public Fishing Site on Backwater.  It's free!  But you need to go through the tubes to get to Lake Webster.  Maximum size approx. 18' Runabout or Fishing Boat.

So if you're a fisherman; Bass Fishing Indiana, Crappie Fishing Indiana or Muskie Fishing Indiana that's the ramp I recommend.

The other ramps are at Webster Lakeshore Marina and at the town of North Webster.  These are easy to get to but the ramp at the marina is very long and the ramp near Fisherman's Cove in town is at a 90 degree angle to the road.  Easy for an expert, tough for anybody else.

It's all good...just bring your boat and come out to our lake cottage.  The kindly folk around the area, affectionately known as "Lake Trash," will help you put in no matter what size the craft.

Dog Days of Summer at the Lake

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 by Wesley Duke Sapp

Man it used to be hot & humid with no AC at Indiana Lake Cabins!  All we had was cool Lake Webster Fishing in the early morning and late afternoon twilight.  (I like the twilight, that's when the Marsh Crone feeds her brood the "Marsh Crone's Brew"...look it up...I swear...see for yourself on Hoss Hill Road at about 745PM!)  There was also of course; swimming at the Epworth Forest Beach or off the boat or pier, speedboat ride with the wind in your hair, bike ride down the hill toward Eagle Point, trip for ice cream with the windows rolled down and "Hanky Panky" by Tommy James and The Shondells blastin' on the box, hangin' out in the basement.  Lake cottage rentals used to be sweltering especially at night with the oscillating fan that only cooled you as it passed by.

But now our Northern Indiana Cabin Rentals have something great!  Air Conditioning.  That's right, central air so you don't need to drive to Syracuse to the Pickwick Theatre and watch GI Joe or BandSlam just to get that artificial AC cool.  And you can sleep at night at our Vacation Home Indiana without putting your head down towards the foot of the bed
(I don't know why but before the AC may Dad did that 'cause he said it was cooler, right Dad.)

So go for it! Sweat it up all day and at night after your dip you can chill out the Dog Days in Fiiinnne AC.  Be cool.
