This years Indiana winter weather has been intense. We have dealt with days full of snow, sleet, ice, freezing fog and single digit temps! It's hard to take it easy when you are dealing with old man winter being so contrary. Yet there has been tremendous beauty in the nature of winter this year with the glistening ice shimmering off tree branches, or in seeing beautiful snow caps lay on evergreen limbs. There is a cute parade of front yard snowmen in our neighborhood carefully made by the delight of children and family. It's a delight to awake to the hush in the air of new fallen snow and watch a neighbors dog try to romp through the snow drifts. Most of us can't stop to really enjoy the fun of winter during the work week but come the weekend it can be a fun family adventure.
Our Vacation Rentals Indiana Getaway is located in Epworth Forest in North Webster, IN.
It is a great place for a winter family reprieve This Indiana Vacation rental offers a lakefront view of Lake Webster, offering activities of ice-fishing, sledding, ice-skating and making snowmen. There's nothing like taking a walk across the frozen lake and marking your initials or name in the ice or snow, followed up by the warmth inside to two toasty fireplaces (one on each level) along with a hot cup of coca. It's not unusual to spot a deer family right outside the cabin doors. Now until the end of March we are offering a Indiana Winter Getaway Special. For only $300.00 you can enjoy winter at it's best from Friday until Sunday.
Make reservations today to treat you and your family to some Indiana Winter fun!
We were at the lake this weekend and there were several groups out Hard Water Fishing. This is the first year I've ever heard of this term but it seems to be equally as popular as ice-fishing (BTW I know they're the same thing.)
If you like ice fishing then we have a Winter Cabin Rental where you can stay. I don't know if Lake Webster Fishing is as good in the winter as it is at other times of the year but I know there are people doing it! We saw snowmobiles, orv's, ice-fishing shacks and personal portable heater boxes in several places around Epworth Forest and other Lakefront Cabin Rentals. They were out on the ice all day Saturday and all day Sunday.
Our Take It Easy Lake Cabin Indiana is available now for hard-water fishermen, ice-fishermen or winter outdoor activities of any sort.

One of the joys of going to our Vacation Rentals Indiana Cabin can be found in the shopping stops we make along the way to the many stores we have discovered. Of course, there are many ways to get to our North Webster Lake Cabin Rental and it will depend on what direction you are coming from. One of our preferences is to travel Highway 13 North from Fishers, IN. It takes you through Elwood, Wabash, North Manchester, Pierceton and then North Webster, IN and then on into Epworth Forest. When you travel this path you not only get a taste of the small town Indiana flavor but find wonderful hidden treasures in each store.
There are many shops that I could blog about but I wanted to make mention of a few of the favorites that come to mind. Kitchens Plus is located in Wabash, IN and is a must visit. Do not let the name fool you as, yes they specialize in kitchens, but when they say PLUS... they mean it. They have so much more! This store is over flowing with a variety of unique items with emphasis on primitive home decor. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and talented. The store has an interior designer's touch and is creatively decorated with awesome displays. If you own a cabin or love primitive this is a great place to shop.
In North Manchester, IN.. you will find a very quaint and friendly downtown. You don't want to miss stopping in Nordman's Nook for gifts and the best homemade cookies, pies and cakes. Travel down a little further into town and you will find Home Again gift shop. This is a favorite store for shoppers in the area. Home Again offers an array of items from gifts, jewelry, home decor and children's toys. The Owner greets each guest with individualized attention and has a good variety of quality products.
Once you enter Pierceton, IN you will find a wonderful antique shop called Sydow's Antiques. The Owner is extremely knowledgeable about antiques and has very rare collectibles in his shop.
Upon entering our final destination, North Webster, IN you will find an array of shops in the heart of downtown. We are partial to this community and it's store's so it's hard to say that one shop is better than the other.
We highly recommend North Webster's Ace Hardware Store and it's emphasis on seasonal items. The Third Generation Antique Store is packed with antiques/collectibles and hidden treasures. The store owners are very friendly and the pricing is great. Olson's Furniture Store is the perfect place to find inside cabin or lake cottage furnishings along with outdoor furniture and decor. The Golden Mermaid is a must see for visitors or cabin renters as they have all sorts of lake memorabilia to buy for souvenirs.
So if you are ever in this area or on your way to our "Take It Easy Cabin"... enjoy and savor your trip by stopping in one of these merchant's locations.
Our Vacation Home Indiana Cabin is located just 2 1/2 hours from northern Indianapolis. This Indiana Log Cabin views Lake Webster and the lake is known for Muskie Fishing. Reserve a date today to enjoy the adventure of travels and shopping to our Lakefront Cabin Rental.
OK, set, hut-hut, blue, go blue...
My best Peyton Manning impression. Don't worry about it! But, if you need some RnR after the exciting Colts Superbowl Victory come to Epworth Forest and kick back at the Take It Easy Cabin.
Or, if you're sad because the New Orleans Saints got whupped, come lick your wounds among some real saints, the folks in and around Fishing Lakes Indiana.
Indiana Lake Cabins are the perfect place just to get away for any reason. You can Rent Cabin Indiana even if you're a Bears, Bengals, Browns or Packers fan.
Go Colts!

The recent news of the Haiti disaster has really touched my heart and Wesley's. The tragedy of what has occurred has caused so much destruction, death and suffering. I like millions of others have felt helpless at times as to how I can help. I look out our Vacation Home Indiana Winter Cabin Rental that views Lake Webster and feel the tranquility and peace, yet I know miles and miles away there is suffering beyond belief. Humans without shelter, water and food. I cheer for my beloved Indiana Colt's team and yet my heart cannot forget that others are suffering and something more needs to be done.
My Nephew by marriage, Joel Perkins, has his pilots license. Flying has been his passion for years. They reside in Atlanta, GA and he was asked to fly one of Ted Turner's planes to deliver supplies and water to the citizens of Haiti. Ted Turner has donated 1 Million Dollars towards Haiti relief. Joel was asked to perform this duty on the day he was celebrating two of his children's birthdays. He accepted and flew out that day.
This assignment has changed his life forever but he also wanted to do his part to contribute. He was so touched by what he saw especially when it came to the children. He flies back and forth each day from Florida to Haiti. He felt the calling to do more so he almost bought out the entire Wal Mart in Florida with medical supply needs, toys, and candy to bring to Haiti He is spending his own money to do this. Today, Haiti not only received the supplies that Ted Turner has sponsored but so much more including 1,200 blow pops and toys for the children. These innocent children and orphaned children must be so lost and confused in all the chaos the earthquake has caused. My Niece, Michelle is now receiving all sorts of donations from family, friends and even a few strangers.
In addition to this, Joel was able to meet a family from California trying to adopt and save a 7 year old orphan from Haiti. He was able to transport them out of there and fly them to Florida.
So besides our personal Haiti donations we will donate 25% of any cabin rental that occurs in February towards "Haiti Smiles"
Now you can enjoy a great winter cabin rental with lakefront views and help make a difference in Haiti.
We hope everyone will continue to hold Haiti in their prayers.

This Christmas we had renters at our Winter Cabin Rental. We hope they enjoyed the log cabin holiday trimmings and woodland environment inside and out Epworth Forest. I am sure waking up to the Lake Webster view and snow just added to their Christmas joy!
We loved sharing time with local family and friends at our personal home but had a ache in our heart when our North Webster, Indiana cabin friends/ neighbor sent us this pic of our northern Indiana Rental Weekend getaway on Christmas Day. They had snow on Christmas!
We plan to finish up our 2009 year and celebrate the New Year's Holiday at our cozy Log Cabin. It will be the perfect setting to ring out the old and bring in the new year.
Happy New Year!
"Isn't it funny that at Christmas something in you gets so lonely for - I don't know what exactly, but it's something that you don't mind so much not having at other times" ~Kate L. Bosher
I recently saw this posted quote on a friends face book page and it struck a chord. I could so relate and know that others can too. Perhaps the older you get the more meaning this quote might mean. Christmas has a way of taking you back in time, thought and feelings. It brings forth all your past Christmas memories especially those perceived through the innocence of your childhood eye's or the fondest times of all in your past Christmas experiences and memories. What can truly compete with a memory if you decide it was the best ever? I believe ones life can be very fulfilled and feel no remiss during the year yet who amongst us at some time doesn't have a longing for a simpler life of being a child or what they recalled that really brought them love, peace and joy? There are very few people that live with the spirit of Christmas in their hearts 364 days a year... yet when we hear a Christmas carol being sung, or watch a Christmas movie we yearn and focus on those scared moments in our life with loved ones that really matter.
Christmas can be very magical as our hearts shift to miracles, faith and gifts of all kinds. During the holiday season we pause to honor things of true meaning including our past and often this call of loneliness we hear is just a ghost whisper from the past. Christmas transforms our thinking to giving and honoring love. As years past things change, families do grow up, families can move apart, relationships may fail and break apart, we lose loved ones to passing, perhaps don't stay connected as we want to with dear friends, we grow older and shift our likes and dislikes, and we live daily with grown up responsibilities. Life is ever constantly changing and yet time can have it's way of standing still in our mind during the holiday season. Christmas takes us back to our beginnings. A special day where we can't help but feel the "Spirit of Christmas" and the importance of love, loved ones, and the childhood that formed us. We realize we can't go back, and take stock of who and what we are today in gratitude for all those experiences that bring us to yet another Christmas Day.
Yes, many of us will feel a nagging ache and longing for that which was was and for those things, people, places and memories we rarely recall throughout the year. I think it is part of the tapestry of life and perhaps Christmas makes us more conscious in honoring the past and then reflecting on our current blessings that have been bestowed upon us in our life journey.
May your Christmas Season be full of love, wonderful family memories.. and finding time to always ...Take It Easy in life
Merry Christmas!
PS: Our Lakefront Cabin Rentals located in the Epworth Forest area in North Webster, Indiana has been creating family memories and Christmas traditions since the mid 1950's.
This Winter Cabin Rental has such a long history of family memories throughout the year. Our Northern Indiana Cabin Rentals was built out of love by Rev. LG Sapp & Emily Sapp. We hope you will reserve some time in 2010 to spend time at our log cabin and make family memories that will last forever.

Last weekend a few family members of our Vacation Rentals Indiana log cabin gathered to decorate our winter cabin rental Christmas Tree. It was a fun weekend of stringing the lights and hanging the new "woodland theme" Christmas ornaments that I carefully selected. We love the cozy glow of the Christmas tree and the lights out back that look out on Lake Webster from our Lakefront Cabin Rentals.
We had a loving weekend of decorating, eating, playing cards and watching one of our families favorite Christmas movies... Christmas Vacation. I have seen it so many times but still laugh when the squirrel jumps out of the tree.
Next weekend we have more family members coming with young children to visit the cabin... Can't wait!
HO HO HO!!!!

Whenever we go to our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin we always try to take a short drive to Leesburg, IN to eat or have a drink at Pie Eyed Petey's. It has great food and a kicky upbeat atmosphere that you'll enjoy. The inside is decorated in a pirate/nautical theme including boat seating. The Restaurant is less than 20 minutes from our Lakefront Cabin Rental in Epworth Forest and we think one the area's nicest casual spots to have fun. Last weekend we dinned in one of their boat seats and grabbed a delicious pizza.
For many people the holiday season can conjure up feelings of joy, warmth, family, etc. But unfortunately, I think for even more people the holiday season can lead to feelings of stress, depression, or anxiety. Typically, these negative feelings are triggered because of the extra financial burdens during this time of year, the added chores of shopping, meal prep, and decorating, or the people you are stuck being around (or vice versa the people you don't get to be with and are stuck being alone).
Believe it or not - I think a winter cabin rental at our Epworth Forest home is just what you need to solve all of the above problems! Think about it this way:
- Finances: if finances are stressing you out, use our discounted rental rates this fall to get away. The prices are 37% off our regular rates and can be used as a great gift for loved ones.
- Chores: there is no better way to stop stressing about your to-do list than to get away form it all. If you are anything like me, trying to relax at home typically turns into a day full of chores. Choose a place to relax where you can really escape, no malls in sight, no decorating to do, just you, your family, and a fire to warm up around.
- People: if you struggle with being around people you don't want to be around during the holiday season, make sure you take some time to be around the people you DO want to be around - those you love and cherish. That quality time won't just happen on it's own (especially during the holiday season) so make sure plan a specific weekend to get together with the people you love.
Whatever your situation or stress-triggers are, our
Indiana Lake Cabins home is sure to lighten your burden this winter and warm up your heart.

This weekend we are headed back up to our winter cabin rental for some more cottage bliss.... well sort of! We always feel more relaxed when we are snuggled in our lakefront cabin rentals that looks out on Lake Webster amidst the beautiful nature of Epworth Forest in North Webster, IN, but this weekend we have a full scheduled planned. We plan to join some long time area friends for dinner and music in Syracuse, IN. The "Lake Trash Band" is playing and the drummer is a old friend of Wesley's. We also plan to get a very early start on some of our Christmas decorating as we have many family members coming up to visit us in December. We decorate the entire cabin inside and out so it's a wonderful place to enjoy the holidays. This year we are decorating in segments as we are saving the Christmas Tree trimming for when the grown children and grandchildren arrive in early December. I love the holidays and all the traditions that go with it...especially at our Vacation Rentals Indiana lake cabin
I haven't been blogging much lately as I've had a lot on my mind - my husband and I are expecting a little girl in March, so there have been lots of things to prepare for! As I think about our little one that is on her way, I can't help but think about all of the great memories I shared with my family at our Lake Cabin Indiana Home, and all of the memories we will create with our child through out the years.
When many people reminisce about their child hood, often their best memories are those of family vacations, time spent away form home with their family. Has your family taken time this year to reconnect? If not, now is a great time to book a winter cabin rental because the rent is cheap and the area is beautiful! Your family can hike together, build a fire together, roast marshmellows together, play board games together... the possibilities are endless!
Start creating memories with your family today at Epworth Forest - email takeiteasycabin@gmail.com to book your rental today.

I usually make a point to watch as many horror movies as possible in the fall leading up to Halloween. In honor of the upcoming season. I enjoy the feel of a classic old time horror movie that just feels good to watch on Halloween, much like Night of the Living Dead does. A good old fashion scary flick that gives you something to think about One of the scariest movies I saw as a child was one with Vincent Price called "House of Ushers" and after the movie they had the characters who had died (some who were buried alive) come from behind the screen... you talk about being scared. I have watched this movie as an adult and laugh at the exaggerated 60's drama and blood curdling screams.
Check this classic movie (funny now) out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k48BMS5AfW0
I've noticed in the past few years that horror films are becoming too much to handle for certain people. A lot of these recent films are what is known as a slasher film when the plot focuses on psycho killers. These kinds of films give people like me anxiety, due to the fact that this possible situation could happen. These movies really creep me out especially when I am at our Vacation Home Indiana Cabin. It just feel scarier since we are more remotely located in a Northern Indiana Cabin.
Since this Halloween we will be enjoying our lakefront cabin rentals that views Lake Webster, we will no doubt rent or buy some Halloween DVDs to add to our collection of movies (approximately 50 movies to choose from) that we keep at our cabin for ourselves and for guest. Some of our favorite Halloween movies are...Halloween of course.. Friday the 13th... Night of the Living Dead (b/w version) Pumpkin Head..It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown (for the faint hearted), Saw, Hellraiser, and Cabin Fewer (of course)
In the North Webster, Indiana fall, when the air is cool and the leaves begin to get crisp, you will always find door steps and front porches in Epworth Forest protected by the fun scarecrow. It is so popular that seeing a home without a scarecrow is actually unusual. Kids and adults both love to build scarecrows and it is known to be one of the greatest family projects that any family could ever think of sharing. In fact many area families make the scarecrow part of a yearly tradition when it comes to making them.
So this year Wesley and I thought we would make an attempt to make our own Lakefront Cabin Rentals Scarecrow that would look out to Lake Webster. I have never made a scarecrow but we have plenty of old clothes to use so this will be a fun project while we are at our Indiana Cabin Rentals.
Here are some suggestions I found on the internet on how to make a scarecrow for those of you who are like me and have never tried it.
Creating your own Scarecrow
- What to use for clothes: The most common used are blue jeans or blue jean overalls and a old button up flannel shirt. Get yourself a pack of safety pins to help you attach the shirt to the pants so you can stuff your scarecrow really good. You will also need a pair of gloves to attach to the arms and.......Don't forget the straw hat now!
- What to use for stuffing: The most common item to use to stuff your scarecrow is pine straw that you have raked up out of your yard or even hay. A way to cheat the stuffing process is to save up your 1/2 gallon plastic milk jugs. Wash them really well and use them to stuff down the legs of your scarecrow as a filler between the rest of the stuffing that your using. This method also makes your scarecrow light in weight and easy to move around. If your worried about your scarecrow taking a runner..... then think about filling up the milk jugs that actually sit at the bottom of the pants leg full of water for weight. This will keep his feet in place. Now stuff stuff stuff as tight as you can.
- What to use for the head: There are many different ways to make your scarecrows head. The idea of using a gallon milk jug comes to mind or even a pumpkin or a gourd. Retail stores now sale pumpkin shaped trash bags that you can stuff and decorate your yards with. These trash bags make a easy head for your scarecrow and the face is already there for you. Another simple thing to do is to stuff an old pillow case and tuck it in the neck of the flannel shirt. Don't forget to attach it with the safety pins. Buckets and flower pots also work just great as heads too. Remember to have paint so you can create that famous scarecrow face.
- Helpful Tips: Use string and rope to help you tie off the opening of the arms and legs so the stuffing doesn't fall out. Stuffing will always settle in time so as your stuffing your scarecrow, shake it down several times so it will pack really tight.
- Extra Fun: Having a Mr. Scarecrow is the most common thing to have but for some extra fun.... why not make a Mrs. Scarecrow to go with him. Use your imagination and see what you can come up with.

Today was a beautiful fall Indiana Autumn Day which inspired me to go downstairs for our Halloween decorations. I love to decorate but time and money often prevents me from my full expression of this talent. So I head down to what we call the way back room. It is full of junk, memory boxes, and seasonal home decor. I see Mr. Bones, (our singing/talking skeleton) who has been a favorite for years for both family and trick or treaters. We also heard today that one of my best friends, Cyndi and her fiancee Stephen will be joining us at our Northern Indiana Cabin Rental for Halloween They have never been to our cabin in Epworth Forest in North Webster, Indiana or had the pleasure of crappie fishing Indiana on Lake Webster yet.
I want to make sure they feel the cozy welcome that this Indiana Lake cabin can bring and enjoy the Halloween spirit.
So, we plan to add a few extra personal touches for their arrival and will probably bring Mr. Bones along for their pleasure and for any possible trick or treaters. We can't wait to return to our personal cabin and make memories with dear friends amongst fall decor.

On each visit to our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin we can't help but reflect on all the generations of family and guest who have come through these doors to create special moments and memories. Currently, we have 2 family members and one close friend expecting babies. Wesley will become "Papa Duke" again when his third grandchild arrives in March. This will be his youngest daughter Jessica's first baby. My youngest niece Bridget is expecting her first baby so I will be Great Auntie R again too:) All of these Mothers to be have made special moments at our lakefront cabin rentals and two of them have shared memories at Lake Cabin Indiana "Take It Easy" with previous generations that came before them. It is our hope that as these babies arrive and grow that they too will enjoy the beauty of this surrounding and hold it dear.

"Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul"
Henry Ward Beecher
This past September I captured a moment of Wesley giving gratitude for the gift of our Indiana Cabin Rentals Log Cabin. He had no idea that I had captured this sweet moment on camera. The peaceful surroundings of our cabin of wooded trees, the Lake Webster view and all the wild life gives you a serene sense of comfort. His personal family ties and youthful history here in North Webster, IN opens up a flood gate of growing up memories. He has shared many stories of his past youth of Crappie Fishing, hiking, family and friends
Having a grateful heart is transforming and should be a daily event. Living in the United States most of us have a standard of living many higher than two-thirds of the rest of the planet. Instead of focusing on what we do not or can not have it's good to bring your awareness around to the many things you do and begin practicing gratitude.
Wesley and I try not to save gratitude for just Thanksgiving but year round too. Our Vacation Rentals Indiana cabin is the perfect place to spend Thanksgiving. Check out our availability calendar for openings.
